Abstract: This ArcView GIS layer contains a summary of the locations, depths, and lengths of the cores collected aboard the R/V FARNELLA 90-4 cruise from 12 -26 April 1990. The cores were collected from the Gulf of Mexico, Mississippi Fan area.
Purpose: This GIS overlay is a component of the U. S Geological Survey, Woods Hole Field Center's, Gulf of Mexico ArcView GIS database. The Gulf of Mexico GIS database is intended to organize and display USGS held data and provide on-line (WWW) access to the data and/or metadata.
Supplemental_Information: R/V FARNELLA 90-4 core information is available in three 1) individual ArcView shapefile, 2) Microsoft Excel spreadsheet; and 3) a column formatted ASCII text file.

Source_Contribution: An ASCII text file listing the core id's, position, depth and length was attached to the R/V FARNELLA 90-3 & 90-4 post-cruise report. The text file was editted to create a tabular list that was read into ArcView.
Process_Step:
Process_Description: An ASCII text file listing the core id's, position, depth and length was attached to the R/V FARNELLA 90-3 & 90-4 post-cruise report. The text file was editted to create a tabular list that was read into ArcView. Minor editting was done to the table for consistency. A final field, DESC, was added and provides a link to GIF images containing an overview description of some of the cores.
Process_Description: A new field, HTMLlink, was added to the cores.dbf file. This field was edited to include the relative path and filename of the visual description for specific cores. This field is used as a hotlink in the windows arcview project file to open the core description in the web browser.
